Ausbildung case study: A Spark of Ambition

18-year-old Liridona had always been fascinated by the inner workings of machines and technology, so when she received the opportunity to move to Germany in 2018 for an Ausbildung as an electrician in the bustling city of Bochum, she jumped at the chance.

An initial shock

Despite the initial culture shock and difficulty adjusting to the German way of life, Liridona threw herself into her training, determined to make the most of this chance to build a better future for herself and her family.

Through hard work and dedication, Liridona quickly proved herself to be a top student in her class, and soon earned the respect of her instructors and colleagues. She was even offered a job at a market leader in the production of IT elements upon completion of her Ausbildung.

As she settled into her new life in Bochum and began to establish herself in her chosen career, Liridona couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. She also met her boyfriend who was studying mechanical engineering in Dortmund. They both moved to Essen where they shared a 3-room apartment together. In 2022 they had a little girl and they became a happy family.

Climbing up

But Liridona’s ambition didn’t stop there. She began to plan a part-time study in Marketing to move into management. Her employer supported her decision, knowing the value of a well-rounded and diverse workforce. With her new skills, she was able to work 55% of her time at home as a Marketing Assistant for her former training company. Her main task was writing technical documentation for the company’s products.

With the support of her employer and the skills and knowledge she gained from her studies, Liridona was able to climb the ranks at her company, eventually becoming a valued member of the management team.

Despite the distance, Liridona stayed connected with her loved ones and often sent money back home to help improve their living conditions. She knew that her success in Germany was not only for her own future but for her family as well.

With a new beginning in Bochum and a bright future ahead, Liridona felt grateful for the opportunity she had been given and determined to make the most of it. She knew that her journey was just beginning, and she couldn’t wait to see where it would take her.

Looking back at Ausbildung

Liridona looks back at her decision to move to Germany for an Ausbildung as an electrician with a sense of gratitude and pride. She reflects on the initial uncertainty and challenges she faced when adjusting to a new culture and language, but also recognizes how those experiences helped shape her into the strong and resilient person she is today. “I remember feeling so scared and unsure of myself when I first arrived in Germany,” she recalls. “But I’m so glad I took the leap and decided to stay. It’s been one of the best decisions of my life.”

She thinks back on the hard work and dedication she put into her training, and how it ultimately led to her success in her career. “I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished,” she says. “I never would have thought that I’d be where I am today when I first started my Ausbildung.”

Gratefulness to her family

Liridona also feels grateful for the support of her family and loved ones, both in Albania and in Germany. “I couldn’t have done it without them,” she says. “Their encouragement and sacrifice helped me achieve my goals and I’m forever thankful for that.”

Liridona also feels proud of her decision to continue her studies and how it helped her to expand her skills and move into a management role. “I’m happy with the balance I found between my work and family life,” she said, “It’s a great feeling to know that I can have a successful career and be a dedicated mother at the same time.”
